Wildlife is everywhere and easy to spot.

But I encourage you to also visit (and donate to) a sanctuary like Alturas. Not only can you see sloths, anteaters and other animals up close while they are being rehabilitated, but you are also helping and supporting the animals that are injured many times due to tourism.

There are rock beaches that are perfect for relaxing if you don’t mind baking in the sun...

...and natural swimming holes which are a great way to cool off on a hot day.

Sunsets over the beach are short but stunning. Seriously, blink and you may miss it.

And sunsets in the jungle are just as nice if not better.

If you love to chase waterfalls you will adore Costa Rica. Some hotels have natural waterfalls right on their property.

This waterfall is one of the 4 waterfalls at Viento Fresco waterfalls which make the perfect stop on the drive from La Fortuna to Monteverde.

Most major cities have their own named waterfall. This is La Fortuna and is a powerful waterfall near Volcano Arenal.

Honestly, in Costa Rica you can bird watch from anywhere – including many hotels. This is specifically Rafiki, which was the best place I stayed for viewing birds.

Exploring the many hanging bridges of Monteverde while literally in the clouds will astonish you. There are a few to choose from but I found Selvatura to be the best.
