Driving to Oxygen Jungle Villas
Unfortunately, you will need a 4x4 to drive the steep dirt road up to Oxygen Jungle Villas. I considered attempting the drive in my standard car but decided against it and I am glad I did – the road was windy, small, steep and full of bumps. I took a cab to Oxygen and arranged with my previous hotel to leave my car there for the night.
Checking into Oxygen Jungle Villas
I was greeted with a welcome beverage and a seat overlooking the infinity pool and stunning view. A friendly and attentive staff member helped me take my bags to my room. Since it is a small hotel check in (and out) is quick and painless.
The Room at Oxygen Jungle Villas
I can easily see why Oxygen is considered a top hotel on almost every website. The rooms are unique and quite stunning! A large plush bed is enclosed with 3 glass walls which give you spectacular views on the jungle or ocean (depending which room you request). I had the fantastic ocean view and woke up to gorgeous pink rays streaming into my room. I can see the appeal of jungle rooms, guests told me they saw toucans and monkeys from bed in the early morning hours!
The bathrooms behind the partition wall are exquisitely done with a waterfall shower head and beautiful stone elements throughout. This hotel screams pure luxury and does not disappoint at any turn.
My only complaint is that the rooms are very close together. I go to bed incredibly early (seriously I head off to sleep around 9 pm) and while I was there someone was at the restaurant pretty late. They weren’t making a ton of noise but I could unfortunately hear them.
Wifi at Oxygen Jungle Villas
Wifi is available in all rooms and in the restaurant and pool area. Connection speeds were very fast.
Dining at Oxygen Jungle Villas Restaurant
Oxygen has its own restaurant on the property, which overlooks the pool. No meals are included. There are no phones in the room (which is typical of Costa Rica hotels) so if you want to order food to the room you have to walk to the restaurant and order – they then deliver it to the room.
The food in the restaurant was good although a tad bit expensive – but then again it matches the price of the rooms. I was a bit disappointed in vegetarian options. While staying at Oxygen I got the fettuccine spaghetti dish for dinner ($17) and it was good but the was pasta over cooked. Breakfast, which included eggs, tortillas, sour cream and rice and beans, was delicious and quickly prepared.
Onsite extras at Oxygen Jungle Villas
One of my favorite things about Oxygen Jungle Villas is the fact that you can be in such luxury but yet right on the property you have amazing natural landscape available to explore. The trails on Oxygen are incredibly easy to traverse and both waterfalls are short walks for those of us who like a quick payoff. (Definitely me!)
The trails weren't marked very well and on one hike I walked to the swimming hole when trying to reach the waterfalls. The general manager did tell me they were in the process of putting up better signage. If you are heading there soon: From the main trail you will reach a fork go right (and notice the path begins slopping downward) if you want to reach the swimming hole, go left if you want to head to the waterfalls.
Final Thoughts for Oxygen Jungle Villas in Costa Rica
A luxury hotel that lives up to the hype. Great for couples and especially honeymooners. If you are traveling solo I would recommend this hotel if you want to be pampered and relax.
