The country boasts of numerous tourist attractions like Disneyland, tons of museums, beaches and an amazing nightlife.
In this article, we will not get into places to visit but tell you about popular US festivals and events you can attend. Without further delay let’s get into it.
Sundance Film Festival
Held every January in the state of Utah, Sundance film festival is a major tourist attraction with over 50,000 attendees. If you're into films it is a must attend. If you’re into sports - and specifically American football - then you will love attending the Super Bowl. For those who don’t know, the Super Bowl concludes the annual National Football League (NFL) season and is a major event for football fans not only in America but around the world. The day the event is held is called typically called Super Bowl Sunday. Many households hold watch parties and the game is anticipated just as much as the commercials.
Getting Super Bowl tickets is almost impossible. If you’re able to get your hands on them you will have to cough up a lot of dough. However, you don’t have to be at the stadium to enjoy the event. They are a lot of live events held on that day across America and you can attend one to cheer your favorite team and join in the euphoria if your team wins.
In 2019 Super Bowl Sunday falls on 3rd February.
Mardi Gras Day
Also known as Fat Tuesday, this is a centuries-old carnival celebrated before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the fasting period of Lent. People come out to indulge in food and drink before the start of the fast leading to Easter holidays.
The event is not only held in the US but also in other parts of the world with a huge Catholic population like the UK, Brazil, Germany, Italy etc. Mardi Gras goes by different names depending on what country you are celebrating in.
What makes Mardi Gras big in the US is that close 1.4 million people come out to party on that day. Before the big day, they are other smaller carnivals you can attend. The most famous Mardi Gras celebrations are held in New Orleans. Parties include balls, costumed dancers, and street parades. If you want to dress up for the event the Mardi Gras colors are purple, gold and green.
Mardi Gras will be on 5th March 2019
The event known by Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest music festival is probably something you should attend in your lifetime. Summerfest is held on 75 acres at Henry Maier Festival Park along the lakefront in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attracts over 900,000 tourists and locals annually.
The entire festival runs for crazy-long 11 days from late June into July with over 1000 performances including some from the most renowned musicians in the worlds. Whatever music genre you like to listen to you can hear it at this event because they are 11 stages step up! Chose where you want to go and experience something new at some of the best performances in the world.
At the event, you not only get to listen to good music but you can also try out a wide variety of American food from the many Milwaukee restaurants present. There are also fireworks and other family activities like mini golf.
They are so many other events and festivals you can attend in the US like the New York Fashion Week, The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and so on. When deciding your dates of travel remember to do a quick google search to check and see what’s on. If you are a foreign visitor traveling to the US you may need to apply for a visa. For example, if you traveling from China you will need a US visa for Chinese citizens.
Hope you enjoy your travels in 2019 and maybe I’ll bump into you at one of the events!

One of the most common questions I get: What is the best camera for travel photography? I personally love my Nikon D5600. I use the kit lens and a Sigma wide-angle lens (for Nikon) which I am genuinely obsessed with.
And of course, if you have any questions DO NOT hesitate to reach out to me via Instagram, Twitter, or just shoot me an email (tessajuliette at gmail dot com).
