History of the Ritz-Carlton Budapest
A gorgeous hotel in an absolutely beautiful building overlooking Deák Ferenc Square. The hotel started as an insurance headquarters in the early 1900's. During the war it was bombed extensively and refurbished under the Meridian brand. The surviving statues outside the hotel allude to its insurance past. A relatively new property for the Ritz-Carlton (opened in April 2016) the hotel is beautifully decorated with signature tones of Ritz blue and gray throughout. A nice touch is the main sitting area in the lobby, which houses books and paintings from local Hungarian artists.
Checking in & The Room at Ritz-Carlton Budapest
My room was on the top floor and had gorgeous floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the shopping street below. From my window, I could also see the large landmark hill across the river that houses the Citadel. Each room at this Ritz comes with a chandelier, an added touch of luxury that shouldn’t be overlooked. My chandelier was a modern piece that easily fit the décor and vibe of the room. The feather bed was extremely comfortable and I felt as if I was sleeping on a cloud.
I particularly liked the couch in the room, I work while on the road and it is nice to have a place to sit other than the desk to enjoy a cup of tea and get some things done. The bathroom was roomy & decorated with marble and gold, a call back to old school hotel glamor. The large vanity was perfect for my various toiletries and the tub and walk in shower gave me plenty of options to relax at the end of a long day in Budapest.
Wifi at The Ritz-Carlton Budapest
I had no trouble connecting and accessing the high speed Internet during my stay. I happily watched Netflix on my laptop while easily answering emails on my phone. No complaints.
Extra Touches at Ritz-Carlton Budapest
There is a reason the Ritz is known worldwide as a leader in luxury travel, they just do everything right and with incredible ease. From the wonderful feeling of entering a modern designed hotel to the fresh flowers in your room, your stay at the Ritz is sure to be perfect. Turn down service is always prompt and the chocolate snacks are delicious. Extensive bathroom amenities are standard in every room, which makes not having to call downstairs for a simple razor a luxury that every upscale hotel should be offering.
While staying at the hotel I emailed the front desk to print my boarding pass with the intention to pick it up on my way out the door. Within 5 minutes a bellhop was hand delivering my pass in a crisp blue envelope. Small touches like this go a long way.
Dining at Deák St Kitchen at Ritz-Carlton Budapest
There are three areas to drink or dine at the inside The Ritz-Carlton in Budapest. The main restaurant Deák St Kitchen is a modern and casual restaurant with typical Hungarian offerings. I had a superb dinner, which included Salmon Ceviche, Pumpkin Risotto & Vegan Carrot Cake. I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of fish and vegetarian options in a restaurant known for meat. Also, the atmosphere was set perfectly with a live singer strumming an acoustic guitar and singing American music.
Breakfast is served in the old school lounge under a brilliant blue cupola. The restaurant itself is appropriately named Kupola Lounge and they serve an extravagant breakfast buffet with fresh offerings of muffins, croissants, eggs, meats, cheese, and much more. They also offer an a la carte menu for a small price (included in some rooms). Not all rooms include breakfast at all, so be careful while booking. Afternoon tea is also served in the lounge.
The main bar and lounge at Ritz-Carlton Budapest is Kupola Bar, a tranquil and sophisticated space with live music as well on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The main bar is an impressive piece of solid marble and the drinks are spectacular.
Onsite extras at Ritz-Carlton Budapest
The Spa at the Ritz-Carlton Budapest offers massages and facials for an additional fee. A sauna and steam room are available for guest use, as well as, a small gym and indoor pool with Jacuzzi. I took advantage of all of these extras and I really must say, it was hard to leave the actual hotel and explore Budapest, but somehow I managed.
If you upgrade to a club room you will have access to the lounge, which offers wine, beer, cocktails and small snacks throughout the day. It is also a good place to get work done if you are on a business trip.
Final Thoughts for Ritz-Carlton Budapest
Although the Ritz-Carlton Budapest comes with a hefty price tag you can rest assured your stay will be nothing short of spectacular. The central location is perfect for exploring the large city, and the service at the hotel is splendid. I highly suggest staying here during your time in Budapest.
