Driving to Swiss Hotel Miramontes Monteverde
From the center of the town of Santa Elena (which is completely paved roads) the Swiss Hotel Miramontes is only about 3 minutes away. There is a small stretch that is dirt road but if your standard car made it up the mountain to Monteverde you will be fine. The road looks a bit desolate and you may think you made a wrong turn, but a short ways up on the right you will find a sign for the hotel.
By the way, the road up the mountain to Monteverde is not paved – if you are driving to Monteverde yourself make sure you check the conditions!

Checking into Swiss Hotel Miramontes

I pulled into Swiss Hotel Miramontes, parked my car in the lot and was checked in quickly. The restaurant was deserted and I was told the restaurant does not open for dinner. The girl at reception was very nice and gave me an informative map of the area. She pointed out her favorite restaurants and where the main attractions were. She helpfully answered a couple of my questions.

After the map rundown and my questions, I was given a key and offered no help taking my bags to my room. She didn't even point me in the right direction. This is definitely a budget hotel. Which isn’t a bad thing! Just be aware before you book.
Also, be sure to have your confirmation email or voucher printed or saved on your phone – they ask for it at check in.

The Room at Swiss Hotel Miramontes
The rooms at Miramontes are in two categories, the main hotel and 2 larger chalets near the back of the property. I had a room in the main hotel and it was extremely bare bones, 2 beds with sheets, extra blankets for sleeping, and a tiny bathroom with a shower. I will say that online, the chalets have great reviews but I was never able to see inside of them. Apparently they are much nicer and offer more room than the rooms in the main hotel. Although I don't mind bare bones hotels it did irk me that the window in my bathroom was wide open with no screen on it and there were a couple of bugs in my shower. Thankfully, the door to the main room had been closed and I didn't see any bugs near my bed and the room itself appeared very clean.
Wifi at Swiss Hotel Miramontes
Wifi is available in the main lobby and in all rooms. The connection speed was very fast.
Dining at Swiss Hotel Miramontes
As I said before, dinner is not available at Miramontes hotel but breakfast is included. It was very good and filling but most importantly, it was available quite early in the morning which I loved. I ate around 6:20 and was out the door by 6:45. Quick, tasty and available early – great job!

If you don’t mind staying at a basic hotel then Miramontes is a fine choice. If you are in Monteverde, you are most likely going to be out all day exploring since there is so much to do in the small town.
