History of Hotel Santi
The current hotel is a combination of 7 residential buildings, which were built during the 15th - 18th century. The façade is from 1838 when the 2nd floor was added and it was used as a monastery. In the 1900’s the space was used as rentals hosting merchants and craftsman. After an extensive renovation in 2010 Hotel Santi was opened in 2013 under the Hotel Laris Group.
Checking in & The Room at Hotel Santi
My room at Hotel Santi was a deluxe room and was spacious with a king size bed and small sitting area. Two windows overlooking the back garden let in plenty of natural light. The bathroom was on the smaller size but adequate room for my single traveler self with a large walk in shower.
My favorite part of traveling Europe is how old everything is (especially compared to the US) so I absolutely loved that the hotel rooms were full of so much history and 15 of the 21 rooms have a plaque describing what the space was used for throughout history. My room in particular served as accommodation for Krakow’s bishops. The room’s decorations were original and preserved including the century old wooden beams.
Wi-Fi at Hotel Santi
Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi at Hotel Santi was not the best, and it is my biggest complaint about the hotel. On my phone it continually timed out (it wouldn’t even work for a full 5 minutes) and after fighting with it for over an hour and signing in every 5 minutes I finally gave up. Thankfully, I brought my computer on this trip and it worked better – but still not great. The problem is I don’t usually travel with my computer, having it with me is actually quite rare. When I travel I like to research and book things on my phone the night before so the Wi-Fi not working well was extremely frustrating for me. Not to mention trying to get work done at night was not an option.
Area surrounding Hotel Santi
Hotel Santi is located in a great area just a short walk to the main medieval square. It is directly next to Holy Trinity Church (one of the top sights in Krakow) and many shopping and dining options. It is also a short walk away from Miod Malina one of the top rated restaurant in Krakow.
Breakfast & Dining at Hotel Santi
Because Hotel Santi is a hotel in an ancient monastery there is no true kitchen and restaurant onsite. Adjacent to the main building is a small area where they serve breakfast. Although it is small the breakfast has a plethora of options and a small a la cart menu to order from. Lunch and dinner are not served at all at the restaurant.
Onsite Extras at Hotel Santi
The bar in the basement of Hotel Santi cannot be missed. The basement area was discovered during renovation in 1994 and the walls underwent conservancy analysis. The basement was finally deemed to have original brick from the 15th century and you can now enjoy a drink in the evening in the magnificent space.
Final Thoughts for Hotel Santi
The Hotel Santi exceeded all of my expectations enough to make me overlook the poor Wi-Fi experience. Staying in rooms that are preserved as they looked centuries ago is an experience you shouldn’t miss while in Krakow. Definitely stay here!
