Only 100km from Tokyo this is one of the easiest places to travel to for Mt Fuji! I have an entire article about getting to Hakone from Tokyo specifically to see the magical mountain... check it out here.
The city also has a beautiful shrine on the water and an amazing island to tour.
On clear days you can see Mt. Fuji all the way from Tokyo!
If you want to see Fuji up close there are many options. Check out this article for all the different views and places to see Mt. Fuji. There is a great view of Fuji from the Ritz Carlton Tokyo by the way.
Less than an hour from Tokyo and called the Kyoto of Eastern Japan. There are tons of shrines, temples, and other historical sights. The most famous is the Great Buddha of Kotokuin.
You will stop through this town on the way to Hakone. Check out the huge castle, there is a museum inside on several floors.
A gorgeous park in the Tochigi Prefecture. The most famous site in the park is Toshogu Shrine which is a UNESCO world heritage site. And, if you're a waterfall chases (I mean who isn't) check out Kegon Falls in the park.
Located in the Saitama Prefecture the most famous thing to see in this town is Hitsujiyama Park. In the spring the park has the most beautiful pink flowers and on clear days you can see all the way to Mt. Fuji.
One last thing... even though researching ahead of time is great, I definitely recommend bringing a guidebook along with you. Here are some books I recommend...
